How to Travel to Virunga National Park Congo?
Transport from Goma to the park can be arranged with Virunga national park and the easiest way to get to the park is by use of tour operators currently offering the Mountain Gorilla Safaris in Congo. Basically there are various routes one can use such as the Rwandan side on road which is a 4hours drive from Kigali town to the city of Gisenyi a nearest town to Goma, after crossing the two borders it takes an hour and half driving to reach the park headquarters.
Starting from Uganda connecting to Virunga national park on road is quite tiresome since you might spend a night in Kisoro then proceed to the DRC in the morning hours via Bunagana border and take a 30 mins drive to Bukima where gorilla trekking is done for all gorilla families.
Visitors who travel to Virunga National Park by air usually land at Goma international airports. Although most people prefer the Kigali international airport in Rwanda because its less crowded but Goma airport has always acted as the main airport for years as it offers some international flights like the same way to Kigali international airport for critical travels. However, there are main airline companies offering flights to and fro the country such as the Turkish airlines, Brussels airlines, Kenyan airways and Swiss airlines.
Visitors that want to end up their safari in Virunga national park and are from Bukavu, there are always ferries that ran from Bukavu to Goma passing through the Idjwi island on lake Kivu as the drive on speed boat takes about 3 hours and the public boat around 4-5 hours.
